Rachel joined FCCLA as a 7th grader by getting involved in the Chapter Service “Get Wild with Reading!” STAR Event, even though her involvement in FCCLA began years before. When Rachel was nine years old, her mother and FCCLA Adviser brought her along to her 1st National Leadership Meeting in Anaheim, California. One of Rachel’s babysitters and a local FCCLA member ran for a National Office and received the office of National President. Rachel then decided that she wanted to join FCCLA as soon as she could and follow in Ashley, her babysitter’s shoes! In eighth grade Rachel decided to expand her leadership in FCCLA by running for the South Dakota FCCLA State Junior High Representative and received the leadership position. Throughout the next six years Rachel has held numerous leadership positions, some of which include Chapter President, District President, State Community Team Peer Educator, South Dakota FCCLA Vice President of Chapter Recognition, and now National Vice President of Peer Education. Rachel attended all four phases of the Ultimate State Officer Academy, has attended many National Cluster Meetings, and has visited Pierre twice for South Dakota Legislative Shadowing Day. She has also been involved in National Programs such as Community Service and competed in STAR Events on the state and national level including Illustrated Talk, Chapter Showcase, Chapter Service, and National Programs in Action. Her most memorable and recent “Caring for Cancer” Community Service project educated her community on different cancers, detection, and prevention, where her chapter raised $3,705 for the American Cancer Society. In her school, Rachel is actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, chorus, swing chorus, band, jazz band, school plays, volleyball, and has held many class offices. Rachel enjoys playing softball, piano, singing in church, being an active member of her Church Youth Council, and just hanging out with friends! Rachel has also received many honors including South Dakota Girl’s State Representative 2007, Hugh O’ Bryan Youth Leadership Seminar Class Representative 2006, All State Chorus Soprano 2005 and 2006, Augustana Band Festival 1st Trombone/ 1st Chair 2006, and Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year 2005. As the National Vice President of Peer Education, Rachel hopes spread a positive image of FCCLA and live by fulfilling this quote- “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”- Les Brown. Rachel Lauren Remund: necvppeered@gmail.com
